International Student Admissions: Overview
The following sections are for international students (i.e children who are non-Singapore Citizens/Singapore Permanent Residents) seeking admission to mainstream public primary schools, secondary schools and junior colleges (JCs).
For admission to pre-schools, private schools or post-secondary institutions (e.g. university or polytechnic), please contact the school or institution directly. More information can be found at the pre-school, private schools and post-secondary education sections.
Admission to Mainstream Primary Schools, Secondary Schools and JCs
Starting from admissions into academic year 2009 onwards, MOE will be conducting a centralised admissions exercise around Sep-Oct of each year for new international students who wish to join our mainstream public primary and secondary schools in January of the following year.
This new exercise – the Admissions Exercise for International Students (AEIS) – will involve a centralised test on English and Mathematics, and applicants who pass the test will be offered a place in a suitable school. The 2008 AEIS centralised test for school admission in January 2009 will be offered on two dates, 22 Sep 08 and 13 Oct 08. The exercise will be for new international students seeking admission into Primary 2–5 and Secondary 1–3. Our schools generally do not admit students directly into Primary 6 and Secondary 4 as it would not be in the students’ interest to be admitted during these critical examination years.
There is no change for international students seeking school admission for academic year 2008. They can approach schools directly to be considered for admission into academic year 2008, subject to the availability of vacancies and schools’ admission criteria.
International students who wish to seek admission into academic year 2009 but who cannot make it for the AEIS centralised test or who wish to seek admission to Primary 1 or junior colleges (JCs) may approach schools directly.
